Most of the people say not to eat sugar because they believe that sugar is greatly liable for diabetes. Actually it is a controversial thing. Sugar can never create type 1 diabetes because it is generated genetically or by other unfounded factors. Again, some things like high calorie diet and overweight cause type 2 diabetes. Researchers have found out that taking sugary drinks is also a risk for type 2 diabetes. They also have found out that the total carbohydrate a man eats, affects blood glucose or sugar level. A small amount of sugar serving contains large amount of carbohydrate. So, the doctors suggest taking a small portion of sugar that does not affect blood sugar level.

In the past, people thought that eating lot of sweets would cause diabetes. So, the age-old persons said to avoid sweets totally. The past researchers also believed that sweet or deserts were causing diabetes. They also gave the same opinion.

But, nowadays the thoughts have been changed. A lot of researches have been done on sweet and diabetes. The present researchers have discovered that sugary foods like sweet or desert are not the only important things in posing diabetes. But, sugar increases the risk of taking place diabetes.

They have opined that sugar has no responsibility of causing type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by genetic and other unknown factors. In case of type 2 diabetes, there are many reasons are liable. For example- overweight is one of the main reasons. Besides, eating heart-content, lack of physical activities and eating lot of carbohydrate foods are also risky. Actually these things ultimately lead one to overweight.

The risk of diabetes depends on the total carbohydrate. If the total daily carbohydrate is more than need, you have greater risk. Generally a person needs 45 to 60 gm total carbohydrates a day. This amount may be different according to a person need. You can eat any type of carbohydrate a day but focus on total carbohydrate. You can eat one carbohydrate food instead of another . In this way, you can choose sweets or desserts but small portion is a must. You can also substitute sugar for another carbohydrate food. For example- you want to eat cookies at lunch. Your lunch is a turkey sandwich with 2 slices of breads. The ways of getting total carbohydrate are-

  1. Bread is a carbohydrate.
  2. Take 2 slices of low-calorie bread (1/2 carb) instead of regular bread and cookies.
  3. Now total carbohydrate is the same.

How to eat sugar?

When you tend to eat sweet, you can choose fruits. Don’t buy sweet or dessert from market, rather you prepare it at home in the right calories. Break down your desserts with your friends, family members or others if you have more sweets. Take very small serving a few times a day so that the total carbohydrate is OK.

You can reserve your sweet for some special occasions like birthday or Christmas day. Eat your favorite dessert or cake with your friends, relatives and family members so that the big serving cannot attract your craving.

Get importance’s on eating fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, non-starchy foods, non-fat dairy products, beans etc. so that sugary foods cannot get space in your taste.

Last of all, you must consult with your diabetes specialist when, how much and how to eat sugary foods. He can show you the best ways of sugar diabetes. You should also see well whether any food contains sugar. You can detect it by food and nutrition facts label. Don’t be confused with the claims of food labels such as- no sugar, sugar free, reduced sugar etc.
